THERE IS A NEW SERIES OF ARTICLES WHICH STARTED IN THE SEPT.92 ISSUE
OF THE EAA EXPERIMENTER WHICH IS COVERING THE SUBJECT OF AUTOMOBILE
ENGINES FOR AIRCRAFT USE.
THE SERIES IS WRITTEN BY HANS MAYER OF CANADA AND WILL COVER THE
AREAS THAT EVERYONE ASKS ABOUT. IF THE FOLLOWING ARTICLES ARE AS
HELPFUL AND WELL WRITTEN AS THE FIRST - READ IT!

ALSO IN DEC. 92 ISSUE OF SPORT AVIATION AND EXPERIMENTER IS A
EXCELLENT SUMMARY OF THE STATUS OF FUELS AND FUEL STC'S.

APPROVAL OF MTBE ADDITIVE FOR USE IN AUTOGAS STC'S
Excerpt from policy letter dated Dec. 14, 1992
  ...the FAA has determined that autogas blended with MTBE can be used
  safely in aircraft that are approved for the use of autogas by STC's.

  The existing prohibition on the use of alcohol additives REMAINS in
  in effect. It is the operators responsibility to assure that the
  autogas conforms to ASTM Spec. D-4814, or the predecesor Spec. D-439.

  Autogas blended with MTBE is approved for use in aircraft that are
  approved for the use of autogas by STCs. AC23.1521-1A is being revised
  to remove the prohibition on MTBE additives.
